Facilities Technician I

Site: Rockledge, FL

MISSION:

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the care, upkeep, and cleaning of assigned buildings and related facilities. Troubleshoots maintenance issues or equipment failures, performs minor repairs, and responds to calls for service. Resolves problems to ensure efficient and safe operations. Work is performed under close supervision with minimal latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The list of essential functions below is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this job. Other duties may be assigned based on business need.

  • Performs all custodial work and maintains the supply area according to established procedures and time schedules.
  • Cleans and maintains carpeted and hard floors, mops floors according to cleaning schedules.
  • Conducts minor lawn maintenance as needed to include weeding, hedge trimming, and landscaping.
  • Conducts facility opening and closing activities as directed; responds to alarms as necessary.
  • Maintains custodial supplies and equipment.
  • Cleans and maintains supplies in restrooms; empties and cleans waste receptacles.
  • Documents custodial and maintenance needs throughout the day; addresses issues or escalates to appropriate staff as needed.
  • Assists with maintenance and facility projects as directed.
  • Provides back up for Custodial position as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • None

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED; supplemented by two or more years of custodial experience; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
  • Must satisfy Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) Level 2 background screening requirements and drug screening.
  • May be required to have or obtain additional formal industry certification(s) based on area of assignment.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license with a clean driving record and also have reliable transportation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Building maintenance, repairs, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) experience.
  • Experience with disability-service and multi-division organizations.

In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to perform each of the established essential functions in order to perform this job successfully.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Skill in adapting to a changing work environment, competing demands and ability to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, floor scrubbers and carpet shampooers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to organize work for timely completion.
  • Ability to regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. Tasks may involve some climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Tasks are regularly performed inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse environmental conditions (Example: dirt, humidity, cold, rain or fumes).

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Some tasks require manual dexterity, in addition to visual and hearing acuity.

Availability: Full Time Monday-Friday

Salary: $16.00
